SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The afternoon after legendary Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan passed away – a memorial has begun to form in front of Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City.
Sloan passed away Friday morning at the age of 78 after a battle with Parkinson’s Disease and Lewy Body Dementia. He was diagnosed in 2016.
He was the face of the Jazz franchise and his influence is still felt today. Sloan was the longest-tenured head coach in American major league sports with the same franchise when he resigned as the head coach of the Jazz on February 10, 2011.
