LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) –In an effort to reinvent itself, JCPenney will be getting rid of appliances and nearly all of its furniture from stores as it returns its focus to clothing.
In a release online, JCPenney said the decision to ditch major appliances will improve financial performance and drive profitable growth.
Additionally, furniture will only be available online and select Puerto Rico stores.
The company also announced Wednesday that it will redesign its stores, reducing its massive inventory.
“Optimizing the allocation of store space will enable us to prioritize and focus on the company’s legacy strengths in apparel and soft home furnishings, which represent higher margin opportunities,” the company said in a statement.
Customers can purchase major appliances in stores and online through February 28.
